Back to the 1800's!

Updated: May 13, 2021

Hello, and welcome! Here you will get a glimpse of a little bit of Claire's flair, is what I like to call it, or my art! I would like to talk about some projects that I am currently working on so I can document my process to completion. As a Stop Motion Fabrication Artist, there is a lot that goes into creating tiny worlds

Here is a project I have been working off and on for about a year now.

I started this project in my Model Making class in Spring 2020 with the intention to expand my hand building skills with large power tools. We would be creating plans and using wood and acrylic to create our projects. The semester started that way, in the lab with my class with all our materials, but then Covid hit, and we all moved to zoom online. The class curriculum was changed and we moved to the industrial design 3D software called Fusion 360. I had no idea how to use this software, and my teacher was incredibly helpful in teaching me last minute. This became a blessing in disguise, as I gained a new knowledge on this software I wouldn't have otherwise known. Here are my other projects before this final piece, where I 3D printed and laser cut my designs to be slot fit together to make functional product designs:

I realized since I already have technical skills with wood working, I now have more skills in creating assets on the computer to be 3D printed. And thus, this project was born! When I started thinking of this idea to create a San Francisco townhouse, I gathered references shown below:

What amazing detail in these buildings. Since my previous sets have been more natural and textured with plants and nature, I wanted to make a piece that focused on clean architecture of city houses. It all started with a simple plan, a façade with a large staircase and beautiful bay windows.

The class was incredible, I learned to model! I really wanted a Set piece that would combine 3D printing components with handmade components, a seamless design that would teach me to create the best possible looking work with being efficient in time and money. When the class ended, this was my final render that I modeled in Fusion 360:
