Technically, saying the whole name "Plecostomus" is bad luck. Its such a cool word though, and I actually owned one once!
I constructed this using water based clay using a pinching method to make a hollow oval shape. I will hollow more out later but this helps skip some work later on. Here are some process pictures of the main base of the Pleco constructed with the first pass of detail.
I used old dry clay and wet paper towels to form the shape of the tail lifted from the table. I also did this with the bottom fins as well as the face so that they would stay in the position I wanted lifted off of the table. The back, not pictured, was given an oval shaped hole near the top dorsal fin so that the piece can later be mounted onto a wall.

Above are some reference pictures for this project. I loved the idea that the fish would have a texture pattern in the skin as well as a different pattern over the top just using color. here is the fish with the completed sculpt!
